Antifungal activity of lectins against yeast of vaginal secretion BJM

Lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins of non-imune origin. This group of proteins is distributed widely in nature and they have been found in viruses, microorganisms, plants and animals. Lectins of plants have been isolated and characterized according to their chemical, physical-chemical, structural and biological properties. Among their biological activities, we can stress its fungicidal action. It has been previously described the effect of the lectins Dviol, DRL, ConBr and LSL obtained from the seeds of leguminous plants on the growth of yeasts isolated from vaginal secretions. ABSTRACT As primary decomposers of organic matter, mucoralean fungi have an important ecological role in edaphic systems in the Atlantic Forest. However, there is a knowledge gap regarding how communities of Mucorales are structured in soils of Atlantic Forest areas, and whether these communities are influenced by edaphic attributes in this domain. Thus, the current study aimed to understand the influence of edaphic attributes linked to species richness, abundance and composition of Mucorales in dense ombrophilous forest, ‘tabuleiro’ forest, sandbank and mangrove ecosystems located in Pernambuco, Brazil. Culturable fungal diversity of shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei boone from breeding farms in Brazil BJM

Litopenaeus vannamei, which is the most common shrimp species cultivated in the northeast of Brazil, is very susceptible to microbial diseases, and this consequently affects productivity. There are reports of bacteria, viruses and protozoa in these shrimp, but not fungi. This study aims to isolate and identify fungi present in shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei, and in their nursery waters, at two breeding farms in Brazil. The pathogenic potential of the isolates was assessed through the qualitative detection of proteases and aflatoxin B production. The 146 isolated fungi comprised 46 species. Partial characterization of an inulinase produced by Aspergillus japonicus URM5633 BABT

Enzymes obtained by fermentation processes offer a number of advantages and have been widely researched and used throughout the world. This study aimed to partially characterise an inulinase produced from palm and cassava peel. The enzyme was produced via the solid-state fermentation of Aspergillus japonicus URM5633. The optimal temperatures were 50ºC and 55ºC, and the optimal pH values were 5.2 and 3.4 for inulinase fermentatively produced from palm and cassava peel, respectively. The thermostability measurements for inulinase produced in palm showed that the relative activity remained below 100% until 30 minutes of stability for all temperatures, but reached 106.8% at a temperature of 50ºC after 60 minutes.
